i would really like to have an offline version of OBDeleven beacause it needs a lot of traffic and i can't use it if there's no internet connection available. If it's not possible to make an offline version with the same features then slim them down but keep the main features. I hope this reaches the developers and admins

We have had this Question before and my response is as follows.
The way the app has been built is to work online, so there are lots of benefits to this when I update the long coding description this is shared with everybody in real time. The history and Backup of data changes is again real time and does not bloat you device. If you phone / tablet dies you don't have the possibility Apps can be refreshed and updated again in real time. I personally have multiple devices and I want to change to another one it shows the same data as its talking to the same online database.
I accept there is traffic but i use my home wifi most of the time and have a good data package and have not had an issue so far.
The point of the forum is for people to share thoughts so its good to discuss but I much rather the Dev team got on with bug fixes and improvement rather than this. An example from me is the ability to create my own apps (like a macro facility in excel) so that for example i can set up my lights for car shows and then return them to street legal with an app.

for example i can set up my lights for car shows and then return them to street legal with an app This was something that I've also been interested in too. There are days where I want to with my car for race days at the drag-strip, such as to keep traction control off, and a few adaptations for the steering assist, while temporarily declaring different emissions standards in the engine control module. ...yet revert these changes when I'm done with the drag-strip for the day. As for the concern held by the OP, my issue with an "offline" version of OBDeleven is that the dongle itself wouldn't even have enough storage for all the possible modules that one may encounter. OBDeleven also has to protect themselves against piracy too. It is clear that Ross-Tech encrypts some of their label files for VCDS (in the form of *.*CLB files). Clone duplicates of VCDS cables get bricked when plugged into a PC running a genuine copy of VCDS. The online version of OBDeleven doesn't use much data in my opinion even during firmware updates of the dongle itself.

I totally understand your arguments. The online constraint is becoming more and more and from my point of view this is a very questionable development. More and more of my personal information is in "foreign hands" and that's something i don't like. Another point is if Voltas stopps their service the app and dongle is totally useless because you need the server in order to use the app.

Is there a plan to provide API's or programming information for the dongle? For example, If I wanted to add support to "ROMRaider" for allowing it to work with VAG cars in offline mode (currently, it supports Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 & Subaru)
The bluetooth API for Windows is fairly robust, but there's no info it seems on what the dongle does. Is it acting like a gateway? (accepting commands and responds)? Or is it raw connectivity?

Is there a plan to provide API's or programming information for the dongle? H3LL NO. That would NOT be advised. That would be giving away OBDeleven's hard work and intellectual property rights for free. It would be the same way that Ross-Tech wouldn't disclose it method for VCDS's dongle (despite the number of cloned copies floating around the internet). Your best bet would be to get a hold of one of those VAS 5054A tools online and play around with that instead.

I know this is an old thread but the problem with having an online version only, is the fact that you don't really own your device.
Your device that you have purchased could be rendered useless if they decided to close their company, changed their model and charged you even for basic features.
This is becoming common practice now where you buy something, then the company then makes you pay for the basic service you've already been receiving and paid for.
People should boycott this type of cloud model, irrespective of how the company thinks it's helping people and is better for them.
If I'd have realised that I couldn't use mine without an active internet connection, I'd never have bought this.
