A few questions from a Noob!

Greeting, I have a few noob questions, I hope nobody minds!
Basically, I have a 2014 VW Passat and need to replace the battery, so it will need coding and I would rather spend the money on the things to do it myself than pay someone to do it, hence my interest in the OBDeleven!
So, can I do what I need with the old gen OBDeleven and the pro upgrade, or is the next gen unit required? Also, is coding the new battery a fairly simple operation?

yes you can code with the first generation dongle and the PRO subscription.
