Hi all, have done a basic search without luck yet, maybe I'm using the wrong search term.
I have a 2009 Mk5 Golf (BKD 2.0TDI) that I have just fitted a genuine (secondhand) towbar and module to. I have OBDEleven Pro and I need to enable the towing module and possibly change the reverse proximity sensor (also does this distance change only take effect when the trailer is plugged in?)
In any case, I have the original installation instructions from VW but it's been written for a factory scan tool and I cannot work out how to convert to the OBDEleven interface.
Factory instructions as follows:
Check operation
29. Re-connect ground of vehicle batery. 30. The factory fitted Gateway must be coded for fuction extension 'towing hitch' using the V.A.G. service tester as follows: - 19 Diagnosis interface for data bus - Read/write long coding - 69 Trailer function (code) 31. On vehicles with park distance control adjust the PDC ofset using the VAS tester: - address 76 (park distance control) - adjustment - channel 2 - 0-30cm (standard 11cm) 32. Check operation of the trailer using suitable test equip or with a trailer
Can anyone translate that, or would be willing to assist a rank beginner like myself to long coding to solve the issue?
Cheers in advance,
Tristan Melbourne, Australia

Hello Tristan.
The instructions are literally the same. I'll translate for you. First of all before doing anything else, do a BACKUP of all modules. Do a SCAN, and e-mail the results to yourself (in case you need to revert).
Now for the instructions: You don't need to do anything to the battery terminals until AFTER the process. In OBDeleven, Go to Gateway (Module #19), select installation list (pencil icon), select the TRAILER function in address:#69. SAVE that coding.
If your car has the PDC as stated above (in the bumpers or otherwise), go to module: #76, then go to ADAPTATION. In Adaptation, go to Channel#:2. Change the selected value to say "0-30cm (standard 11cm)". SAVE and exit the module.
At that point, you would test the operation of everything with some sort of trailer attached. If it does not work, then temporarily disconnect the main 12 battery terminal for a few seconds, and you should be good to go.

The same steps for ODIS and VCDS are applicable to OBDeleven. Whenever VAG instruction says Code, it is the same "coding" that you are seeing in OBDeleven. Whenever the VAG instructions say "Adjust", it is just the same adaptation channel in OBDeleven.

Hi Matthew, firstly thanks so much for your reply. Whilst this might seem super simple for those with even a small amount of experience with OBDEleven, for a beginner like me the instruction was invaluable, much appreciated.
One question I have about the park assist (PDC) is that there was no option for 0-30 so I just set it to 30. Does this mean that even when the trailer is off, my sensor distance is now modified? If so, I think I'd be willing to put up with some beeping on the odd occasion when reversing the trailer than lose the setting for normal use. Incidentally, I did note that before I changed it to 30cm, it was set at 0, not 11cm.
Cheers,
Tristan.
