Hey guys Can someone please tell me the correct process for disabling exhaust flaps on my 2019 MK 7.5 R dsg with keyless entry? On my old mk7 R - manual, i just ensured flaps were open in race mode, turned the car off and then disabled flaps. There seems to be more trickery with dsg/keyless entry to achieve this. From what ive read it involves the following: 1. Start engine 2. Select Race Mode 3. DSG in Sport if applicable 4. Turn engine off (leave DSG in Sport mode, ie do not put into Park etc.) 5. Ignition on, but don't start 6. Plug in ODBEleven, connect as normal 7. Select Engine 01 8. Long coding 9. Use right arrow at bottom to move across to Byte 9 10. Untick bit 2 (Ticked means valves are Enabled) 11. Move gear lever to P/Park - DSG 12. Long press on green tick to accept 13. Done When I performed above, i got the error “function not available” I turned engine off and pushed start without starting engine and connected Obdeleven. what am i doing wrong? dv52 (Australia) have you any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Chris

Chris: Hi.
No, I have no further advice on this tweak other than to try the coding change by starting at step 5 and delete step 11

Hi Don
I hope you are well?
I dont know how many ways I have tried this tweak! I can definitely hear the flappers open and when i check live data, i see them open 90%. Its the next stage that seems to have the conflict. Put into S, hear the flaps open. Switch off and push start button without starting engine, followed by applying tweak.
Something not making sense!
Even the app for disabling exhaust flaps state that marginal conditions not met!

Why cant anyone explain why this mod does not work?
Not even the app for disabling exhaust flaps work.
All other mods seem to work fine!
I keep getting “function not available”
I performed this mod easily on my previous mk7 R, but on my current 7.5 R with keyless entry, it will not apply.
Help is much appreciated!

dv52 (Australia)I bet a gent with your knowledge in this field, could figure out the correct process to keep the exhaust flaps permanently open 👀 The app for exhaust flaps and the long coding method both return errors “function not available” or “marginal scenario not met” I can hear the flappers open when I enter Race Mode or put the DSG into S. (live data also shows the flappers open at 90%) Its figuring out what the correct coding/process i need to perform to keep them open. Model: 2019 Golf R DSG 7 Speed with start/stop keyless entry Thanks Don

As I've already said - alas No. I'm aware that this tweak can be problematic. The exhaust flap system is part of the car's emission control. My hunch (and this is completely a wild guess) is that this tweak is problematic on engines have the additional 2nd flap control module - meaning that while this tweak changes a software switch on the engine-module - it really works on the module that VW calls "J883 - Exhaust flap control unit". But, engines like the 2.0l petrol engine (i.e. CJXB, or CJXC) have an additional module called "J945 Exhaust flap control unit 2".
Both of these modules are the same - they are simple 3 x pin devices with a + battery-pin, an earth-pin and a control-pin from the engine module! You could try forcing the control pin to open the flaps - but I'm not sure how this would affect the engine module!! If you experiment with this approach (at your own risk), I suggest that you decouple the wires to the engine module with a blocking diode (to stop volts flowing back into the hex01 module)
Again, a complete guess!!
Of course the other possibility why this tweak doesn't work on some engines is that it changes the emission control system on the car. It would not be surprising if VW have clamped-down on the ability to alter this aspect of the car's operation on later models - as VW has done on other emission control tweaks like deleting Start Stop!!

Hi Don
Thanks for your reply!
It seems VW have changed a couple of things then on the 7.5 R - the exhaust flap configuration and added a gpf filter which eliminates the elusive exhaust farts!
I tried using the app on obdeleven for exhaust flaps and it failed too! I reported this in the app and the agent agent added a report bug feature to the app. I ran the tweak and then sent a bug report to the agent. Im now waiting on his findings.
I have heard people disconnecting the exhaust flaps power connector while the flaps are open. Im not sure whether I wanted to do it this way.
I wonder has anyone actually disabled the flaps successfully who owns a mk 7.5 R?
Alll the best
Chris

I had the flaps locked open in my NAR DSG R for a while but switched it back as the drone was annoying. I seem to remember it being as you described for your old R, Race mode, turn the car off, disable the flaps, and turn it on. Since your Australian car has a different exhaust it must be causing the issue.
