Hello forumists,
the indicator (repeater lamp) on my left wing mirror is lighting up outside to inside - and not the other way round as it’s supposed to. The other side works fine.
If my research is correct, there’s no coding fix for this - or is there? As it’s MQB, it appears, that the repeater lamps in the mirrors cannot be individually coded.
As I still have warranty, I want to make absolutely sure, that this behaviour isn’t a result of coding - or rather - I want proof, that the left wing mirror probably has been tampered with.
Cheers Bo

Are you the original owner? Are you sure the repeater wing LED module is original and not aftermarket? I could be wrong, but I believe that in 2020 VW was still reserving the sequencing LEDs for Audi, so perhaps what you have was aftermarket installed by previous owner?
It’s what I did to my 2020 Tiguan, it’s an easy swap/upgrade, I found mine on AliExpress. If that’s the case, you probably have a defective unit and it has nothing to do with coding.
Just my own thoughts. Cheers… DoC

Hey DoC,
no, I’m not sure about them at all. So thanks a ton for your answer! This kinda confirms my suspicion as one of my friends told me the same but wasn’t 100% sure. I’m not the original owner. My car passed inspection anyway as these aftermarket parts surprisingly also sport the VW branding.
With this information I can approach the dealer, so thank you very much! Getting the glas out of the mirror housing seems like a big hassle, so I’ll probably leave that to the dealer while I can.
Cheers Bo

Not sure taking it to the dealer is the best decision. All they will do is confirm it’s aftermarket, offer to sell you the OEM ones and charge you to install, which will be quite expensive for sure and you’ll end up without that cool sequencing effect.
I would recommend you source new aftermarket ones at a fraction of the cost and change them yourself. Plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do it, it’s literally a 15min job. The mirror glass just pops off pretty easily. Even if you do happen to break the glass, you can buy that from the dealer and just pop it back on, but again it’s unlikely you’ll break it anyway.
Good luck. DoC

Here’s a link to a decent video on how to change them.
Not sure where you’re located, but brand new aftermarket ones are like $30-$50 for a pair, Amazon, AliExpress, several other places… just google you’ll find lots.

Thx for all the info and advice! That sure looks "easy" enough.
No worries, I wouldn’t pay the dealer a penny for the fix. It should be more of a case of either getting it fixed for free or getting other freebies instead because the aftermarket mirrors weren’t disclosed to me upon purchase. I wouldn’t miss the sequencing effect too much as the other signals are also still the standard on/off.
Good ol’ Germany is where I’m located. So touching the coding for the signals - or the lighting in general - would have been a big deal either way. While on the subject: I also don’t know whether the R 7.5 Estate signals can be coded to sequencing. So far I’ve only seen it done on the hatchback lights. Front lights are probably the same but the rear lights are different on the R 7.5 Variant.
Long term, I’d love to work on my car on my own as much as I can, of course, but I still have quite a long way to get there - and so far I usually cock it up and have to pay more compared to having had it done professionally from the get go. (I’m sort of looking to get into working on cars - preferably, I’d want to get started on cheap old cars - do you happen to have some recommendations by chance?)
Having this video tutorial as a fallback strategy is very much appreciated. Thank you DoC!
