Hi
I currently have an A3 8V S Line that has rear DRLs which I think are pretty cool. Was wondering if there’s a way to get them on the new model (2021 8Y)? I’ve done some researching online and some people have said it works but it when the main beams are on at night, the front DRLs don’t dim which would obviously blind people, don’t want to do that! 😀
Is this still true? If it is, is there a way to fix that? Would love rear day time running lights on the new one!
Thanks!

The tweak instructions for Scandavian DRLs are real simple- like this: - Select Central Electrics module @ address hex09
- Select adaptations
- Search for "Daytime" then select Daytime running lights
- Select Dauerfahrlicht aktiviert zusaetzlich Standlicht
- Set to active
- Follow prompts to implement change
- To operate Scandinavian DRLs - make sure that the rotary light switch is in AUTO position
Give it a shot - it's an easy try!!! Don

erenaudi3 : I'm not 100% certain - but I very much doubt that Scandinavian DRLs will alter factory lamp illumination when low-beams are turned-ON. More likely, the tweak will increase the dashboard illumination during daytime and it will also turn-ON the night-time lighting on the tail-lights
The reason why the DRLs dim with low-beam lights is because the DRL fittings do NOT have reflectors with cut-off characteristics. This means that full illumination at night-time conditions will blind on-coming vehicles. Hence lots of countries regulate by law that DRLs must dim during night-time running.
Anyhow, I suggest that you try the tweak. If the lighting effect is NOT to your liking - simply revert the channel setting back to the factory value!

Thanks - can you please tell me which OBDEleven device I need to buy that will allow me to do this
There seems to be a few different ones so not sure which I should get - OBDEleven Pro or just the normal one?

erenaudi3 : Hmm........ are you saying that you want to purchase OBD11 just for this ONE tweak? No offense intended - but this appears to be an expensive solution for a coding change that I strongly suggest won't work!! Anyway - it's entirely your prerogative to throw money at this matter if you so choose! To make coding changes manually, you need a PRO account.
However, I suspect that the Scandinavian DRL tweak may be available as a One Click App (OCA). Normally I don't recommend OCAs because they can be difficult to unwind if the tweak doesn't work (particularly for new-bees).
If you want to try a OCA, maybe purchase the "the normal one" in the first instance and check if the OCA is available. If the OCA is NOT available - purchase the PRO license as a separate item and make the coding change manually. Don

Thnx for your reply
Well you see I have an Amazon gift voucher that I need to spend anyway so was going to....
But what you are saying is you don't think the Scandinavian DRL tweak will actually work on my Audi A3 S Line 2021? - as in even using Long Coding?
I was also thinking to get those nice animation rear lights when you lock the car, but not sure if my car is capable of that because it doesn't have ANY animations now, it just turns on like normal - what do you think?

But what you are saying is you don't think the Scandinavian DRL tweak will actually work on my Audi A3 S Line 2021? - as in even using Long Coding? hmm....... when you become more familiar with coding, you will come to understand the term "long-code" better. The tweak for Scandinavian DRLs doesn't use long-code - rather it uses "adaptation channels" (which is a different form of module coding)
No, I'm NOT saying the tweak itself won't work - I'm suggesting that it won't work to "alter factory lamp illumination when low-beams are turned-ON".
I was also thinking to get those nice animation rear lights when you lock the car, but not sure if my car is capable of that because it doesn't have ANY animations now, it just turns on like normal - what do you think? I'm not sure - it really depends on lots of stuff (like what type of tail-lights are factory fitted to this car). Read user comments HERE

ok I get you, so when I do this adaptation with the one-click app, is it a known issue that when you do use the Scandinavian DRL, it will not dim the front DRL when the main dipped beams are on at night, rather it will remain at the full brightness that it is on during the day?
i don't really mind paying a bit of money for the pro subscription for the rear DRLs because i love that feature
thanks again

erenaudi3 : With the caveat that I haven't actually applied this tweak on a MQB-evo platform car (i.e. Golf mk8) - the Scandinavian DRL tweak normally illuminates the Parking-light function on the tail-lights in daytime conditions and it also increases the illumination of the Dashboard lighting in daytime conditions. That's it - I'm not aware that it changes the factory operation of the DRL lamps on the headlights. But as I said in my earlier response, the risks to you are minimal because if the tweak does have a detrimental affect to any of the cars lighting - simply revert the channel setting back to its original value. Problem solved!! Don

Done on mine, thanks! Now the difference in the virtual cockpit is that the green position lights icon is present instead of no lights icon.

Another question, it is possible to add an option on MMI for enable/disable this after this coding?

Try
Activate adjustable daytime running lights in the car menu
Control unit 9 → Adjustments:
Daytime running lights: - Daytime running lights activation possible via BAP or operating sequence: active
→ Apply

(disable rear tail-lights).

I can’t understand you. Scandinavian DRL are:
"the Scandinavian DRL tweak normally illuminates the Parking-light function on the tail-lights in daytime conditions and it also increases the illumination of the Dashboard lighting in daytime conditions"
If you don't need the rear tail-lights, turn them off as you turned them on above.

I understand everything that has been said here. I hope to explain myself well, since English is not my native language.
In my country, front daytime running lights are mandatory. For added safety, I have activated the Scandianvian DLRs with OBD11; now rear tail lights are illuminated.
On top of that, I've turned on MMI menu to turn off daytime running lights. Right now, since I have the Scandinavian active by OBD, it deactivates both the front and the rear.
What I intend is that in the MMI there is a new menu to deactivate the Scandinavian option without having to do it again via OBD11, and be able to leave only the mandatory front daytime running lights when I am interested, without having to use OBD11 again.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to turn off the rear tail-lights from the MMI.
