Hello everyone,

I am new here and hope this is not a stupid question:
I have installed foldable mirrors on my golf 7.5 In the proces I have disconnected the battery and afterwards I have coded the new module for the drivers door with obdeleven. There where many fault codes in the process but now I am left with one fault code. And that is analog clock no communication. How can I solve this problem and is it a problem? I also have the idea that the cooling fan keeps blowing more frequently and faster after shuting of the car.

I hope someone has a solution.

No, yours is definitely NOT a "stupid-question"- sounds entirely reasonable to me!!

So, it's unclear (to me at least) why the error has appeared. Does this car actually have an analog clock?

Maybe post-up a copy of a SCAN report so we can see how this car is built and what fault-codes (if any) are present.

Assuming that you use the Android version OBD11 software - do this:

Notice my bolding of "Priority 2" in the Freeze-frame data. This is VW's assessment of the importance of the fault based on a 8 x level system with priority 1 being the highest importance.  This fault does not have the highest priority rating, but it's close!! 

According to VW's notation:

• Priority 2 = The fault requires an immediate service appointment.

Clearly it's NOT logical for a faulty analogue clock that lives on the dashboard to have a priority 2 rating!!

So , what is this "analogue clock" as defined by U109600?

I was able to find the same fault as reported by VCDS - like this:

• U1096 00 [009] - No Communications [Analoguhr (LIN#2) Timeout]

From Google translate "Analoguhr" = Analogue Clock

I'm guessing - but maybe the term  "LIN#2" in the VCDS version is a hint to the meaning of this fault code (remember that this error is reported in the OBD11 scan against the 19 - Gateway module)?

OK - now I must apologize because I need to get technical!!

The one module in VW's cars has many names depending on application that is referring to the module. For example, the module that lives at address 19 on the CAN network is called the Gateway module for diagnostic purposes by OBD11. However, this same module is called the Data Bus Diagnostic Interface in VW's material and this module is given the designation J533.

Also, communications between modules on a Golf mk7/mk7.5 can take one of three forms depending on the required speed of data transmission. At the low-speed end, the protocol that is used is called Local Interconnect Network (LIN). This is a single-wire communication system in which a LIN master module can talk-to up to 16 x LIN slave modules/peripherals.

For the Gateway module (also called J533), the LIN set-up is like this:

Remember that the VCDS version of fault code U1096 00 refers to LIN#2- my hunch is that this means the single-wire LIN facility between J533 and J453 - as shown in the network diagram above! J453 is the module that I have colored blue in my scan extract above

 However, I'm not sure why this error is happening between the master/slave LIN modules. Is there any information from using the the buttons on the steering wheel on this car that might be useful?

On the steering weel I can't see any clarifications on the error message. 
Isn't it weird that the car doesn't display a error, especially when it has a priority 2?

Bart: yes indeed - it is weird!!

Again, I'm not sure why the error message is happening. This is a communication time-out error according to the VCDS descriptor. This suggests (to me, at least) that either the LIN master (J533), or the LIN slave (J453) is expecting a response to a message request and the reply never happens.

Also, according to the Freeze frame data in your SCAN, this error has been categorized as "static" which means that this problem is not an intermittent fault.

A further reason for my uncertainty about the cause for this error is how the steering wheel electronics (J453) talks to the Gateway module (J533) on a mk7/mk7.5. VW made a fundamental change to the steering wheel set-up when the Golf was transferred to the MQB platform. In previous model Golfs, J453 was connected via a LIN wire to the steering column module (which is called J527 by VW and it is identified as module "16" in your SCAN report). 

However on a Golf mk7/mk7.5, J453 is now electrically terminated to J533 as a LIN slave (as I show on the diagram in my previous reply). BUT stuff gets further complicated on MQB platform cars because of this:

The picture above is electrically the same as my previous diagram but the picture above shows the routing path for the LIN wire between J553 and J453.

Notice in the picture above that the LIN wire from J453 is physically routed via the coil connector (F350), then through the steering column module (J527) and finally it terminates onto J533!! 

The circuitous route of the LIN wire through 2 x intervening modules before the LIN master/slave modules receive messages makes this fault difficult to trace -  alas!

Oke, do you think it is necessary to investigate this further? It seems nearly impossible to trace where the error is comming from with this information. Or is there a practical way to get to know more of this problem? 
I am off course not shure if this will harm my car as I leave it as it is. 

Maby it is also good to mention that I also added a hitch and door exit lights, can any of the wiring of those diy projects also have influence on this error?

I had noted from your previous SCAN that this car has a 69 Trailer Control module - but had I assumed that it was factory installed. With absolutely no offense intended, your latest revelation that this module was installed as DIY project changes stuff!

Apart from setting the long-code string in the 69 - Trailer control module to suit the conditions on the car, these are the other changes needed when fitting a trailer on a MQB platform car:

• hex76 module: Byte 3, Bit 0 = 0 Bit 1=1 (Pivoting trailer hitch), Bit 0=1 Bit 1=0 (manually removable trailer hitch)
• hex01 module: Byte 5, Bit 4=1 (Trailer installed)
  
• wild cards:
  • hex03 module Adaptation: Vehicle and trailer stabilization > activated
  • hex09 module Adaptation: Networking-Anhaengeranschlussgeraet > installed (translation "Networking-Trailer connection device")

Remember that Binary Numbers are read from right-to-left. So, the right-most digit is Bit 0 and the left-most digit is Bit 7

As you can see from my table- currently the required change to the hex1 module for a trailer has NOT been made!! And the setting for the hex76 module is for a Pivoting trailer hitch - is this correct for the hitch that you installed?

Maybe this coding deficiency is complicit in your errors (I'm not sure) - but I suggest that you make the coding change. Then clear any errors and make a fresh SCAN

Now I changed it to manually removable. Where al the other changes I made correct than? 

When I try to delete the error it won't go away. Here is my new scan but still it sais the same.
