How can i use OBDeleven to transfer my data set in full, over to my new MIB2 retrofit? -I have had CP unlocked by an authorized VW ODIS shop. That all works fine and well. Apple car play and Android auto works via usb after that mod/swap as well. So i know Ive got the basics figured out. I have lost the function of my drive mode button since the swap. -It stays solid orange all the time. It does say "SPORT" in the top left of my screen -I have done all the charisma stuff and every option that has been suggested to me.
I am missing something or something is off with my coding/adaptations.

deadheadvt13 : Hi. When you say that you " had CP unlocked by an authorized VW ODIS shop" - is that ALL that was done? Or asked another way, did the "VW ODIS shop" also transfer the licenses that were installed in your old MIB into your new MIB? The "drive mode" facility is SWAP (Software As Product) - this means that there was a license in your old MIB (called a FEC) that authorized the function. The FEC was "tuned" to your car's VIN. Was the FEC transferred to your new MIB? As for your specific question - you can make a full database of the coding settings in the old MIB by creating a Backup of the old 5F module, For this task, you will need to reinstall the old 5F module temporarily. This will generate another CP error - but CP shouldn't stop you creating the backup file. When you eventually re-fit the new MIB again into the car, the CP error should self delete after the first ignition cycle,
The instructions for the Backup can be found in the home page of this forum (it depends on whether you use the Andrid, or iOS version of OBD11)

Is this something i can do myself? So if i put my MIB1 back in backup 5f module, hook up MIB2 and load backup will it work?
or do i need another round of ODIS work done?
Can you please reply with a link to said backup instruction? I searched the forum high and low, used search bar...... I am not finding it. Sorry to ask or bother but i wouldn't if i had found what you were referring to...

deadheadvt13 : hmm........ it depends on which part of my reply you want to do yourself!! OBD11 can NOT be used to transfer the factory licenses (i.e. FECs) from your old MIB to your new MIB. For this task, you need the official VW tool. I suggest that you contact the "VW ODIS shop" and confirm that they did the FEC transfer as part of the original activity of deleting the CP error. Making a Backup of the MIB is of course something that you can do yourself with OBD11. Obviously to make a Backup file, the old MIB must be energized and connected to the car's CAN network - so the new MIB will need to be temporarily removed and the old MIB will need to be plugged into the "QUADlock" connector at the rear of the module. There are lots of videos online that explain how to remove a MIB from the glove-box - however, the video below from mr-fix is one of the better IMO. Note in the picture above from the video that you will need a couple of "keys" for the task (these are inexpensive and easy to get on eBay).
The "Quadlock" connector is released using the in-built handle/lever -see video below (don't worry about the rest of the video - only the QUADlock release method is important in the video).
You will also need to CAREFULLY unplug the aerials and other cables - these are color coded. Don't bother plugging these other cables into the old MIB, they are not needed for Backup process
Also note my previous reply that after you plug-in the old MIB, a CP error will be generated on the first ignition cycle because this car is now authorized for the new MIB. This shouldn't be a problem for the purpose of making a backup file and the CP error should self-clear when you re-instate the new MIB onto the CAN network. Note, you will need to cycle the ignition key after the new MIB is re-installed to clear the CP error (this is when the software that tests for CP errors runs)
If you eventually intend to compare the settings in the old and new MIBs - I suggest that you also make a Backup of the new MIB for the analysis. I've done lots of these comparisons. To do the task properly, you need to check each Bit in the long-code strings and each adaptation channel value on both modules. For the latter part, you will find the following: - Adaptation channel names that are the same in both modules
- Adaptation channel names that appear in the old MIB - but not in the new MIB
- Adaptation channel names that appear in the new MIB - but not in the old MIB
The cases in 2. and 3. above will need special consideration (and ultimately pure intuition, I suspect)
As for the actual process for making the Backup - again as I have said. it depends on which version OBD11 software that you use. Maybe read the instructions HERE for Android, or HERE for iOS. When selecting the module in the instructions - the MIB is called Information Electronics 1 in OBD11 speak (the module will have 5F in the red colored circle for the module on the OBD11 Control Units screen)
