Seems like it is only possible to change the vehicle type to a hatchback or a wagon, that's about it.
Pretty weird design from VW.

vwjap : Yes indeed - I suspect that it's all done on Byte 02 (in 5F module)!! But I think it's a combination of both Vehicle Derivate (i.e. Bit 0-3) and Vehicle Derivate Supplement (i.e. Bit 4-7). I'm not sure which "nibble" determines the actual picture - my hunch is Bit 4-7
To OP: I assume that your question arose because you changed the MIB on this car. If so, my suggestion is that you go back and look at the long-code string in the original MIB and replicate the values on Byte 00-02 onto the new MIB.
