PDC Park Pilot retrofit question

Hi there,

I've bought an 8k Aliexpress kit with 5QD 919 294 K module. It's a Left Hand Side layout. The car is a 2014 UK Golf mk 7. I'm in the testing phase before drilling holes. I think I'm nearly there. The instructions were sent in a messaging app and are a mess. Most of it makes sense from other retrofits I've read (XaGiCo etc). But I could do with a little help please. 

The sensors are just dangling around the cabin at the moment. The Park Pilot console button brings up the Park Pilot Screen. Putting the Shifter in Reverse also brings up the screen. Some of the white distance bars lazily show up, move a little and disappear again. They don't seem to be reacting to me covering the sensors. How important is it that they are properly spaced and mounted?

There are many, many versions of Aliexpress OPS retrofit parking kits - each of different quality and varying pug-and-play"ness"!!

So, there is much about this project that I don't understand! Nevertheless (and for what it's worth), I provide the following comments for your consideration:

For your "Byte 19" question: I don't know what "change to 1 (open radio OPS support)" means - but I provide below a copy of the "yellow" VCDS long-code helper screen for Byte 19 on the 5F module :

As you can see - the ONLY connection between your OPS retrofit project and the software switches in Byte 19 is Bit 4. So, my hunch (guess really) is that the instructions are pointing to the activation of rear view camera. Note however that setting Byte 19, Bit 5 is ONLY correct if this car is fitted with a low-line rear-view camera. If either a high-line camera is installed in this car, or if there is NO review camera - do NOT make this change .

Incidentally: Bytes are a pair of hexadecimal numbers. Each individual hex number consists of 4 x Bits. So the hex pair (i.e. the complete Byte) consists of a Binary number which is made-up with 8 x Bits, or a pair of 4 x Bits. 

In the language of base 16 mathematics  (which is hexadecimal math), Bit 5 = hex1 for the first of the numbers in a hex-pair! So I suspect that this is the meaning of "change to 1" in the Aliexpress instructions. But I agree that the instruction is more than a tad obscure (doesn't matter if you don't understand - my explanation is probably way too geeky ).

For the "Running Gear (Suspension ?) CAN Bus at the TIUL connector" question : Yes, in the wiring diagram, J446 (this module) is connected to the running gear CAN bus.
