I have a 2015 A3 that was suffering from intermittent no sound from the outputs if my mmi and I refuse to pay the dealer $4800 for new mmi unit. Bought one of eBay and maps worked fine until I got the component unlock done at dealer. Now my maps need to be activated. My obdeleven is on order and I'm hoping I can unlock with it and not really need to connect to Germany!! Ty for any input!
Also anyone with a 2015 or newer with more than 122k? I drive a lot!!!!!

had to swap out the mmi brain because the one that came with my car broke. I'm in the US and the dealer wanted $4800 for part. I bought used mmi brain taken out of 2016 s3 and installed. when installed the nav worked fine but there was no sound because the unit was component locked to the old vehicle. Brought to dealer and the dealer removed the component protection by connecting unit to the germany audi computers. After component protection was removed the maps locked and tell me they need activation. Only info similar to my situation found on the internet was old and ended with audi telling them no because they were trying to retrofit the entire system from base. My car had the nav stock so i am just trying to activate maps. I'll upload a pic of massage in a few

Have you tried resetting your MMI? If yes and the error is still there you could try to update the maps via sd card. Another idea would be to check the hidden mmi menu: |

^^^^ hmm......... certainly try this, but the video looks like it applies to non-UDS control module - the A3 being MQB platform based uses UDS protocols.
however, it would be interesting to see the code-string for the retrofitted 5F module (I assume that the jb's description of the "mmi brain" is the 5F module). The software switches that tells the 5F module that there is a SATNAV SD card inserted into the slot (and to start using it) resides in Byte 3. The Bit structure for SATNAV for this Byte depends on the country - in the land-of-the-free it's hex02 (for NAR models).
But a full copy of the scan results would be illuminating in trying to help solve this problem IMO

Will do tomorrow but I think it's going to need the dealer to connect to Audi Germany. They worked for about 20 seconds yesterday. It's not sd card based. It's hard drive. I have reset multiple times.

Call Audi Connect (877) 505-2834 Option 1 Easier if you create your myaudiconnect account first so they can look you up www.myaudiconnect.comLots of cool stuff you can do Its $10 a month for 1GB and you can add a gig at anytime if you run out or $25 unlimited You can also add to an ATT existing account as long as its not "grandfathered" in. Meaning that it is still a data account type that the sell. |

When component protection is active, features that are part of the unit you bought will be unlocked until you get CP Removed.
When i retrofitted a new unit it had carplay working too until i got CP removed.
