Ambient colour mismatch

So this is weird.

My infotainment and digital dash have been standard VW blue ambient lighting for the pinstripe colour for a while now. I just got into my car after it has been parked all day (with nothing plugged into the Obd port) and I find my digital dash pin stripes are RED but my infotainment is blue.

What the hell is going on and how do i get it back to the exact stock blue?

I haven’t even coded anything in a number of days.

Have you done the colour change mod at all?
Have you replaced the MIB, and what does it say when you first turn it on? (Gti,R,GTE)

Stock e-Golf head unit. 9.2” discover pro from factory, says e-Golf when it starts up. Did the colour change mod a while back but had it set to blue to match the door accent lights and front blue accent etc.

Had the central electrics module reset at the dealership a week ago which wiped the colour change mod and set it to factory blue (which I was very happy with. No issues for days.

The only thing I’m wondering; I accidentally hit the driving mode button instead of the off button when I parked at work today, then pressed off. It shouldn’t change anything, as I didn’t change modes and also the e-Golf doesn’t have different colours per mode anyway.

BUT, after I started it up after work and saw the red accent lights I also noticed after a few minutes of driving that the air con wasn’t on. So I pressed the ‘off’ button to turn on the climatronic system and it lit up as if I were in Eco++ mode (which disables AC among other things). But the driving mode button wasn’t lit, and I DEFINITELY was not Eco++ throttle limited.

I changed modes and cycled through back to normal and the air conditioner came back.

It’s so weird to me that the infotainment is blue but the digital dash in red. I don’t even know how I would code that if I wanted that configuration LOL

I think you change it to gti to get it red (as gti’s have red) but would they have upgraded your dash firmware? And some cars it doesn’t actually work on, Is it that there’s still some colour change switch that’s not been changed back

Don’t see why they would have changed the dash firmware.

I just looked in 17 and Lo and behold, Vehicle Variant was switched to 2. I changed it to 0 and my dash is blue again.



That is SO WEIRD, how did that happen? My OBD11 wasn’t even plugged in when it happened?

To continue with the topic of ‘why is my Golf being like this?’, this afternoon after work I got in and started up, all was well. Parked to get some dinner, when I started it up after dinner, this time the INFOTAINMENT unit had red pinstripes and the digital dash was blue. After a few seconds the infotainment turned blue by itself.

I think my car is haunted.

When you did the colour change mod was red the first colour on the list?

I believe the first colour was a dark burgundy. Possibly this red?

I was just saying that coz when I was messing around with programming a few times it always came up with the colour I selected to be 1, wonder if you go in and change 1 to 0,0,0 that might sort it (or change it to blue so you never know 😂🤣😂)

I think that would be an interesting experiment. I did it through the app originally, do you have a quick link to a post discussing how to do it manually by any chance? 🤭

Thank you, really appreciate you! Will try it out and report back. At this point I'm not 'bothered' by the car having the red briefly, but my software engineer brain is just curious WHY it's doing it!

Mine was doing it just while the mib was booting up, which was like another 20 seconds after it came on

I went in and it's already at 0,0,0. Weird!

Maybe change it to a different colour (like green) just to see if it is that parameter that’s causing the issue

This is a known problem, the screen is blue (default color before doing color coding) even when you enter in the car, and turn on the radio with the key off, until you turn the key on it remain blue.

For what I understand, sometimes the radio initialization takes a few seconds more and it does not load the color from the 09 module.

But mine is red when I first turn it on, and it is supposed to be blue from factory. Mine used to be blue all the time. It’s not a serious issue. Hey it’s perplexing.

I remember when I first got the car and started it up, the ‘starting navigation’ spinner was blue, now it’s red until the ui fully loads and turns blue.

Wondering if anybody can assist. I have a MK7.5 Golf GTD and I followed all the instructions to get the ambient colour lights. However following this the small lighting strip on each door behind the door handle is no longer lit up. The footwell lights and the lighting strip visible when the door is open are both working fine. Any advice?

Edit: On return to the car it is now all working. I guess it needed a reboot.
