I know this is an old thread but I’d like to contribute.
Like the saying goes, not all GTIs are made equals, even in the same trim.
To enable the mirror dip, all these requirements must be met:
1) Modules: both driver and passenger modules, must the high line
2) Mirrors: must have the position memory capability
3) Settings: the car configuration adjusted to enable it
ModulesFrom what I've seen in other forums, it's pretty clear that the modules must be a
5xx one, being very consistent to see this specific one work for people:
Though the last letter might vary.
MirrorsThe sure shot are the folding mirrors, they seem to be top of the line.
I personally have never seen anyone say a folding mirror didn't dip.
But for non-folding, let's call them low line mirrors, it's a lottery. I don't see people saying P/N for these, they just go for the folding if theirs don't work.
ConfigurationIt's seems to be just those 4 things posted in this thread.
I can't vouch because I couldn't get it to work in my car.
Final thoughtsFailure to have any of those 3 requirements will cause it to either: not work at all or work so so.
So so will happen when the configuration gets enabled, but either the modules aren't high line, or the mirror does not support the memory function.
In this situation, the mirror might dip, but it will either:
- Not return to the original positional after disengaging reverse or driving forward
- Return to a position not exactly as it was
In my specific case, I could not get it to work at all in my car with the original optionals.
it's a 2020 NAR GTI (MK7.5 ).
All I got was a RH side mirror that would eventually not work at all, or would not work when reverse gear was selected.
I do have high line modules:
- 5Q4959593K (driver)
- 5Q4959592K (passenger)
I also checked the passenger module for the mirror memory, the
Live Data confirmed it’s there.
I did and re-did the configs over and over, in different ways, different sequence, rechecked everything, but it never worked.
But my mirrors are non-folding, and I think this was my down fall.
After fiddling with the Basic Output test, I got a fault:
Mirror position sensor malfunction.
I'm not sure if I'll exchange the mirror in my car, if anyone is curious out there.
Mine does have heated mirrors + blind spot monitor, but there aren't any Golfs, in any trim, that have all three: folding, heated + blind spot.
That is doable, I saw a guy in a forum that ported his blind spot mirror to a folding mirror, and added the 2 wires to the loom, but I already added the puddle lights to my car, and it was a long nightmare to get new wires through the mirror structure, but totally doable (it was my first mod, maybe I'm better now?)
