the instructions i had were 1 - Module 17 - Instrument panel - Code (25327) 2 - Extended coding 3 - Byte 1 - (Activate Bit 3) I checked my car (it came with this) and lap counter was set to Display I take it you dont have a digital display
Dont recall anybody saying you had to do this but you might also try a factory reset (Car / Settings bottom of the list Factory Reset) and or ReBoot the MMI (Hold the on off button for a couple minutes)

That's correct, no digital display here. Tried to reset the MMI even did factory reset once like you suggested, but nothing helped.

One question, where are you looking for the Lap timer, in the little screen in the middle of the dash under car data or some such stuff.
If you are looking in the right place have you tried using the app to install it (it will only be 10 credits.

I know where it should appear, just in case looked in every menu and still nothing.
10 credits solutions doesn't work - getting red message function not available. I've tried everything before posting here.

Sorry was not saying you did not know just making sure you understood where it was shown.
To be fair you are not missing much, I have actually disabled mine as its not much use to me, and I found it very difficult to use for accurate timing.
I do recall that back in the early day's some of the base models did not support needle sweep and lap timer but that was a long time ago and not seen any complaints recently. Have you tried asking OBD11 Support via the app to see if they can throw any light on why it don't work.
