Troubles with the Sunroof / Sunshade

Hi everyone,

i´am experiencing some decent problems with the sunroof and the sunshade in my A4 B9 avant MJ2017 200kW.

I would like to try to describe the whole story first.

Yesterday i was doing a full back up with OBD11 before performing any other changes in vehicle coding.
Prior to that i only used OBD11 on this vehicle for checking trouble codes. 

During the back up procedure the vehicle had its ignition on. As the back up lasted pretty long the battery charge got low (red battery sign in the app), so i started the engine.
After engine started i`ve got a hell of a lot messages on the virtual cockpit (VC) saying that various systems fail and the back up procedure in the OBD11 app stopped/crashed.

Next i turned the engine off and on, what worked fine and without any fail massages on the VC, connected the OBD11 app to the dongle and scanned for the trouble codes.
The were found smth about 70 trouble codes. Most of them saying smth like "Data bus fail". Most of them could be erased and didn`t pop up again (until now at least).

Unfortunately three trouble codes in the sunroof control unit could not be deleted: B154354, B154454 and B169400.
The automatic opening of sunroof and sunshade by pressing the buttons over the first pressure point didn`t work.
Furthermore the roof and the shade opened only about 50% by pressing and holding the corresponding buttons.

My first investigations resulted following:
B154354 means "Sunroof No basic setting"
B154454 means "Sunshade No basic setting"
B169400 means "no vehicle coded"

Further i found out that the "vehicle_variant" in long coding had a value "0" and the actual long code value was 60 80 00 00 00 00 (hex).
In the change log there was an entry describing the changing of the long coding value from 60 80 00 04 92 02 (hex) to 60 80 00 00 00 00 (hex).
This long coding value was definitely not changed by me. 

Further internet research revealed, that the last 3 bytes of the above long coding value should probably correspond to the vehicle code.
So i changed the long code value from 60 80 00 00 00 00 (hex) to 60 80 00 04 92 02 (hex) and the trouble code B169400 disappeared. 

After that i tried to set basic setting of the roof and the shade by first resetting the standardisation and then starting the standardisation/calibration in basic settings section of the sunroof control unit.
This lead the shade to open about 50% and o close without saving the basic setting. The roof sometimes opened 50% and sometimes complete, but the the basic setting did not got saved.

I know about the overheating of the roof and shade motors without predefined settings. It is shown in the trouble codes respectively.
I tried the above mentioned procedure a few times with a sufficient amount of time between the trials to let the motors cool down.
Unfortunately it still doesn´t keep basic settings.

One more thing:
Doing the output test in the OBD11 app lets the roof always open completely. The shade opens only about 50%.

And now the questions:
Has anyone experienced same/similar problems? How have this problems been resolved?
Was it a right decision to change the long code value from 60 80 00 00 00 00 (hex) to 60 80 00 04 92 02 (hex)?
Is it possible, that the sunshade doesn`t open completely (even during the output test) due to the wrong vehicle code?
Does anyone have an idea, how i can get my sunroof and sunshade work properly again?

Hi, had a similar issue. I have lost basic setting feature as soon as I plugged the obdeleven dongle somehow. They sent me a sunroof reset procedure, I followed the steps and it’s sorted. I’ve checked it but it seems the old mesages are deleted. I suggest you to search for sunroof basic setting reset procedure. It’s simple and done by sunroof control buttons.

Did you ever get a resolution to this? I now have the very same error codes but don’t have the original vehicle variant to re enter it.

As you all have here, i plugged in my obd the first time, wanted to make a full backup and whammo, same vehicle type erase, no settings for roof and roof shade.

Resetting values and relearning does not fix my problem (50% opening and closing of both roof and shade)

I managed to get this fixed by someone that had access to ODIS.

That being said, the support did reach out to me but....i have a feeling their 1st responders aren't that savey, because there is no logic to their answers..or they just choose to ignore my answers and questions.... but, i will share their responses non the less:

1. How can the software of the module be at fault when it's the OBD11 tool/software that uploads something, while being restricted to being able to longcode with the basic license?

If this was possible, i would not need the roof module to relearn it's fully open and home position.

I think the problem cannot be fixed with your tool because, the OBD11 tool cannot set initial parameters for the roof glas/shader, it can only calibrate.

This is also the main reason, i assume, why i can't use this tool to long code the road camera to learn "road/speed sign recognition".

The parameters need to be forced in the module (firmware), not long coded. (That would only make it available but does not make the camera learn what to do.

You mentioned that ODIS gets the same problem??
Can you refer me to these findings....since i used ODIS to actually fix my issue.

the original value should be 608000049202. Once this code is set, you need to wait for an hour until the vehicle will sleep. And then do the basic setting.

Connect the OBDeleven to your vehicle -> open the control unit Sunroof (CA) -> basic settings -> and run basic setting “Roof roller blind, calibration”.

After these steps, it should work as before.


So after these answers, i decided that this technical support is pointless.

And we're back. The roadsign recognition highbeam support and all sort of stuff is unlocked....so....i wanted to make a backup and the backup crashed (remembered at same progress as before. I think it was 70% of module 12 or 13.

No matter what you do, you are now back to square one. This dongle is unbelievable....

It is caused by making a backup while the car is started (the transfer rate of this BT is so slow, you have to keep it on a tender or keep the car running)

How were you able to get the lane assist and high beams enabled? It's saying "not supported" on my 2017 Audi A4. It was working for me a few weeks ago but I did a full backup and it screwed them both up for me.

Exact same problem here now with my sunroof and blind both lost basic calibration and open only manually upto 1/3 after OBD11-pro (v1.9.6) did a full backup yesterday of my Audi A4 Avant B9/8W.

Same Sunroof (CA) error codes:
B154354 means "Sunroof No basic setting"
B154454 means "Sunshade No basic setting"
B169400 means "no vehicle coded"

Voltas IT please fix this bug for us after so many years and feedback from us, else I don't dare to run another "Full Backup" with OBD11 unsure what your tool might upset next? Tx

Thanks for all your posts, I finally got the sunroof and roof roller back to normal operation in our Audi A4 Avant (B9/8W;2016)!

Some internet search and trial and error with Stigma his post based on OBD11 support helped too.

Hereby the steps I tried working with OBD11-pro (v1.9.6):

1) This standard recalibration via roof-buttons did NOT work, since the Long coding of the module for the sunroof and roof roller was incorrectly changed to '608000000000' during OBD11's Full Backup:

2) This did work partially, but these steps are INcomplete since they only fix the internal roof roller, NOT the sunroof:

3) Hereby some pictures to show step by step what I did (additionally) to get both working.
Remark: Do all the steps in step 2) first and check if you use the correct Long Coding for your model. They seems model-specific! Google is your friend?

3a) In my case this Long Code worked:



3b) After changing the Long Coding, I left my car locked for at least an hour.

3c) First thing I did after connecting OBD11 again to the car was wiping all error-codes.
In my case only 3 from the sunroof (i.e. B154354, B154454 and B169400):



3d1) Next I went to Garage/ [Car]/ Control Units/ Sunroof (CA)/ basic settings/ basic setting “Roof roller blind, calibration” and run that calibration. The roof roller now started going back and forth ALL the way instead of only 1/3 as explained under 1);

3d2) Next I went to Garage/ [Car]/ Control Units/ Sunroof (CA)/ basic settings/ basic setting “Sunroof, reset standardization" and run that calibration. Nothing happened, but I guess the CA module was actually reset to default factory values?;

3d3) Next I went to Garage/ [Car]/ Control Units/ Sunroof (CA)/ basic settings/ basic setting “Sunroof, standardization" and run that calibration. The sunroof now started going back and forth ALL the way instead of only 1/3 as explained under 1);



4) Under Garage/ [Car]/ History/ I checked if all executed Basic Settings were logged as well. Only 3d1 and 3d3 were, strangely 3d2 was not.



5) With car still ON (a charger too!) and all systems active, I immediately tested both sunroof and roof roller via the multi-switches in the roof.
Everything was back to normal operation! No new CanBus error-codes via OBD11 after this procedure either.

Remark: for me there was no need to execute 1) additionally, after having done 3). Yet I read somewhere on an Audi- or Ross-tech forum that in some cases 1) is still additionally required.

Hope this helps others struggling.

I’ve got the same issue.
Sunroof opens 2 inches and stops.

CA fault code says B154354 (Sunroof No basic setting)
But when I look at the long code it shows as: 52 80 00 04 26 02

Not sure if that’s the problem.
No idea what to do.

Have anyone of you found a solution how to fix this sunroof problem? Also, do you use something to keep your car cold? I am thinking of tinting my sunroof better. What do you say?

I stumbled upon this post while searching for a solution to my sunroof problem as well. It's been a year since this post was made, but I hope you've found a solution by now! As for keeping my car cool, I recently got a car shade from snapshades.com and it's been a game-changer. I used to dread getting into my car on hot days, but now I don't have to worry about it. Tinting the sunroof sounds like a good idea too, have you tried it?
