It doesn't allow to type letters.. This fault appeared after I updated the software of MMI. But MMI works with no issue

Are you asking for that number to be decoded?

Shouldn’t audis have a 5 figure number? Are you looking at channel 15 otherwise it would be 85c3

vwjap: Yes for the A3 8P, but not for A3 8V which is pure MQB platform! Don

Pretty sure it doesn’t work on gen2 ios, well it doesn’t on mine

so do you think it could work if i take an iphone with an older ios version?

No, the iOS version doesn’t seem to support SVM, have you got a android?

Can somebody tell me how I can calculate XOR if I have the number zero at the “confirmation of installation change”? Thanks

Post by dv52 (Australia) on Jun 4, 2021 0:25:33 GMT
hmm........... the same way as XOR is calculated for any other 4 x digit hexadecimal number!! If you think about how XOR is calculated, you should conclude that if one of the numbers is 0000, the answer will be the other number - which is the decryption key (i.e C9D2)
But it's odd to have the channel value = 0.

Hi Don,
Tried to enter C9D2, gave me a “function not available” error in obdeleven.
Thanks

I’ve seen this before, I think (can’t really remember it was more of a accident) but IF the unit isn’t hacked then clear the code, ignition off, unplugged dongle, lock car, unlock car, plug in dongle, turn ignition on and see if code is still 0, I remember it took a while to get sorted, so maybe did it a few times
Just noticed it’s IOS so won’t work anyhow

Hi vwjap!
The unit IS patched. Then clearly this is the reason?
Thanks

Did you try clearing the error first? Then look in it?
As I understand all the SVM is for is so dealers can see if they’ve changed anything in the car for warranty, so if you have a new screen or a new security update it throws the error, then if you go in to a dealer at a later date and they see the error they can say it’s been played with and it’s not on their records so not under warranty, as far as I’m aware it doesn’t cause any problems with the unit, as I had the security update and the car came out with the error, so I cleared it, then the screen went wrong so back in for new screen and it came out with the error again, asked the tech and he said “we don’t clear them” (helpful eh?)
Yeah sometimes a “hacked” unit can have weird things depending on the hack (firmware passwords have known to be replaced so average joe bloggs can’t get in)

Thanks for your explanation. I want to know for a long time how these hacks are be performed. It is strange that nothing can be found on the internet about it. Is it software or hardware? Or is it a combination? Do you know and can you tell this?
Thanks!

It’s software or firmware, the descover pro is like your computer, you have a bios (hardware configuration) and a os (the way the mib runs) and software (like apps) The firmware is the bits your changing with obdeleven, like when you tell your computer you’ve put a new hardware in, or telling it you want say the serial port to run at a different baud rate, The os is the bit you see on the screen just like windows, it runs the system and has all the pictures on it, it will run the hardware, and can change the switches in some of the firmware(bios) The software is kinda small and only real app is the green screen (probably more)
The m.I.b runs on a mobile qnx (a small os a lot like Linux) so you can get into the firmware/software easily without going through the obd port via usb, wifi,sd card the same as you can with a computer, but you need to bypass the security, to do this there’s either a back door to open it up or a set of known security codes, like to open wifi you would either have to write files across to the unit to open sshd by using a lan to usb adaptor (early dlink) and know the security code, or use the phone book/metadata2 back door and a script,
Now the VIM mod doesn’t just go in and change the speed from 1mph to 200 (you can have problems with the speed set above that) as the security code for that is unknown, so it goes in and modified the correct bits of a file that holds the speed information directly (like a config file) and the unit reads that on start up (even though I’m told I’m wrong a lot and it’s an adaptation 🤦♂️, yes it is but unless it’s an early Audi you can’t actually change the speed because you need a security code which is derived from the serial number of the unit, and nobody has “crack” the later version)
Anyhow enough rambling, this is how I think the m.I.b is made up (from what I’ve found playing around)

Great!
It is more clear now. So, as I think when I understand the Swaps and Fecs are being changed in the config file in the firmware. I always thought it was something soldered to the motherboard but It is just editing firmware and software.
Thanks for your explanation.

Yeah I think you set the fec container then you add a patch, but I think the new way to get all the fecs is to put them into a exception list and it fools the unit into thinking it’s in test mode and enables them without checking now

vwjap I found a (at least to say) interesting site! Looks like it is heaven for patching MIB’s mibsolution.euUser: guest Pass: guest All free. Don’t know if this is against forum rules to be honest, but will find out.
